What Is Lipiflow?

Lipiflow is a new technology by Johnson & Johnson in partnership with Tear Science that is considered the most effective treatment for MGD. MGD is the leading cause of dry, crusty, tearing eyes, and is caused by blockages to the Meibomian Glands. The Lipiflow heats the glans and using soft pressure massages out the blockages. It is FDA approved for the treatment of dry eyes and is a 15 minutes procedure, done here in our Scranton office.

Who can be helped with Lipiflow?

Lipiflow can help any patient with dry eyes that shows signs of blockages in the Meibomian Glands. The first step in any dry eye consultation is to examine the tear film and the glands to assess what is causing the symptoms that you are experiencing. If our Scranton optometrist determines that the cause is MGD or Blephiritis, conditions that affect the oil glands in the eye, then our eye doctors will recommend treatment using Lipiflow.
